3G's sunset takes aging cars and medical devices with it


Wireless carriers are starting to shut down their 3G network in the United States, a process called “sunsetting.” Sundeep Rangan, professor of electrical and computer engineering and Associate Director of NYU WIRELESS explained that these operations aren't instantaneous, but could take anywhere from days to months. “I think a lot of people will actually be okay, probably happy,” said Rangan. “Engineers did a fantastic job and put a lot of effort into it. It was a beast.”
