Justin Cappos, computer science and engineering associate professor and member of the Center for Cybersecurity, warned that failing to update a phone’s software regularly may make some people vulnerable to security risks. “For the normal user, [updating] within a few days to a week [of a new software release] is likely fine. … Updating to a new model of your phone every year to every few years can help you stay ahead of the security curve,” said Cappos.
