TechSHRM’s award-winning legacy continues with new honors
Priya Kundu (MOT ’24) was honored with the Sherman Award, the most distinguished honor given to a student SHRM chapter member by NYC SHRM.
TechSHRM, the NYU Tandon student chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), has once again demonstrated its commitment to excellence. Under the leadership of a new executive board, TechSHRM has continued to build upon the legacy of past leaders, receiving prestigious accolades that recognize both individual and chapter-wide achievements.
Earlier this year, Priya Kundu (MOT ’24), the immediate past president of TechSHRM, was honored with the Sherman Award, the most distinguished honor given to a student SHRM chapter member by NYC SHRM. This award, which recognizes leadership and service across all NYC student chapters, marks another proud moment in TechSHRM’s long-standing tradition of excellence. Priya, who graduated in May 2024 with a concentration in People Analytics, attributed much of her success to the collaborative spirit of the TechSHRM community.
In addition to Priya’s personal accolade, TechSHRM was also awarded the SHRM Student Chapter Superior Merit Award for the 2023-2024 academic year. This recognition celebrates outstanding chapter operations, innovative programming, and a commitment to professional development, reaffirming TechSHRM's status as a leader among SHRM student chapters.
Reflecting on these accomplishments, Priya expressed her gratitude to the TechSHRM community. "These awards belong to all of us," she said. "Our team is made up of passionate, driven students who are constantly striving to make a positive impact in the field of people analytics. I'm incredibly proud to have led this talented group, and I look forward to what the new E-Board can achieve in the future."
Continuing a tradition of excellence
Since its founding in 1987 by Professor Emeritus Harold Kaufman, TechSHRM has been a leader in introducing the latest HR technology trends and people analytics developments to NYU Tandon students, and the chapter is a consistent standout both in New York and nationally.
One of the highlights of the past year was the 13th Annual Conference on Human Capital Innovation in Technology & Analytics, which Priya and her team organized before their graduation. With over 400 registrants, including students and industry leaders from around the world, the conference showcased the growing role of AI in HR and people analytics. This event continues to be a hallmark of TechSHRM’s programming, offering invaluable networking and learning opportunities for students.
Professor Kaufman, who has served as the chapter’s advisor since its inception, praised Priya for her visionary leadership. "Priya has shown exceptional dedication and enthusiasm for people analytics and HR innovation," he said. "Her leadership has been pivotal to the chapter’s success during a time of rapid technological and organizational change."

With a fresh team at the helm, TechSHRM is poised for another year of growth and innovation. The chapter remains focused on providing its members with the tools and knowledge they need to excel in the ever-evolving fields of HR and people analytics.
