NYU Tandon Institute Associate Professor Siddharth Garg said ChatGPT produced computer code with errors at rates comparable to that written by humans, suggesting it could be an effective code-writing ally. “[In our research], we didn’t see a substantial difference in the incidence of security bugs in human origin code versus code that is generated by Copilot or ChatGPT...Yes, there are security bugs, but humans also produce security bugs. At least we didn’t notice a significant difference,” said Garg.
