Fernando has specialized chemical safety expertise, offering lab-focused safety innovation, compliance guidance, and troubleshooting. He delivers modern solutions and support tailored to the unique needs of state-of-the-art academic and research laboratories, ensuring safe and compliant chemical handling and operations.
Fernando is certified in OSHA's Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) and FDNY C14 standards to provide support for Tandon’s chemical needs by aiding with SOP review, inventory management initiatives, establishing and enforcing chemical safety and compliance, supplying support in chemical related incidents, and bio waste disposal.
Previously, Fernando has accumulated extensive experience in research. He has worked in synthetic carbohydrate receptors for antiviral applications while also managing safety in the lab. Prior to Tandon, he worked as an Organic Chemist in Process Research and Development in Merck & Co Inc. in Rahway, NJ. Aside from extensive experience in research, Fernando is also an Adjunct Professor of chemistry in Hunter College.
